Hello. This is Michael Sheridan.
It seems to me that I’ve been associated with music one way or another most of my life, so it is no surprise to me that I find myself playing guitar at this late(ish) stage in my development.
Trumpet was my first love. Well, cornet really, although I did switch to trumpet in the Sixties and was happy to play jazz on both instruments. Later, as an actor, I was frequently involved in musical theatre. I fooled around with keyboard in those days. Later, during my career as a chef, I like to think it was my food that was symphonic. And now here I am playing acoustic guitar with occasional sorties into electric axe. Somehow all those threads of my life seem tied together with music, the only oddity being the years I spent in the military, and even there I was playing jazz trumpet at our camp concerts.
I’ve always recognized and valued lessons from good teachers, which is probably why I was so disappointed with a great deal of the tuition on offer when I first started searching the internet for guitar lessons. On the whole the free stuff is pretty much a waste of time except as an introduction to the instrument, and even then far too much of the basic knowledge needed to really fulfil your potential is left out. Some of the paid stuff was, quite frankly, a rip-off.
I spent a lot of money in those early days, trying to find the teaching material that was right for me, not to mention a tutor who could actually teach, and not just play, guitar. I did find them, they are truly wonderful teachers and my playing took off. My learning was in depth, it was stimulating and above all it was fun. I want to share those discoveries with you, while at the same time ensuring that you don’t lose your enthusiasm for all the wrong reasons. I know I very nearly did.
Good luck, and I hope you find that special teacher who is just right for you. Please feel free to contact me if I can help in any way.
