Most beginners seem to love everything about learning guitar except the one essential item – practice. I can’t tell you how I struggled in the beginning and it wasn’t until a very wise man called Steve Krentz let me in on his secret that I really warmed to it at all. Steve’s recipe was quite simple; you need to practice just 15 minutes a day! Just in case you think that’s a misprint, I’ll put it differently; you need to practice just fifteen minutes a day.The thing is, if you pick up the guitar with this mindset you will almost always practice for longer than that, but Steve’s absolutely right when he says that it doesn’t much matter if you don’t. The only thing at stake is how long you take to learn something, and if short practice spurts is your bag, go for it.
Of course you will learn faster if you can spend more time, say half an hour a day, but here’s the thing; that half hour doesn’t even have to be all in one session. Two periods of fifteen minutes is just fine – or any other combo for that matter. Think you can handle an hour a day broken up into 15 minute chunks? I’ll bet you can!
